As the membrane switch market expands further into the automotive and aircraft industry, more focus is being placed on panel backlighting. Utilizing a Lumitex fiber optic panel, it is possible to integrate backlighting into our membrane switch package. This can be done to non-tactile switches as well as tactile switches, with only a minimal loss of tactile response. The backlighting can be in a wide range of colors, as well as a limited range of high intensity colors.
With military projects in mind, The Hall Company has developed a hybrid fiber optically backlit membrane switch assembly. Being NVG friendly, this package enables a fiber optically backlit panel to be used in conjunction with light gathering devices and is fully compatible with all NVG operations. This feature does require the use of a high intensity light source, and can limit the range of color options.
